experience level: beginner to intermediate 

join us for a relaxed, hands on sewing workshop designed to help you build confidence using a sewing machine. perfect for anyone ready to take on a new challenge and learn the basics of making clothing.

this workshop is classed as intermediate, as it’s a little more intensive than the beginner sessions. due to the level of detail involved, the workshop runs for a longer duration.

some sewing experience is helpful but not essential. we’ll move at a pace that supports all skill levels.

section 1 - theory
we’ll start by building an understanding of clothing. we’ll examine a variety of garments, paying close attention to the different types of seams they use and why.

section 2 - practical hands on task
we’ll set up the sewing machine step by step. You’ll create sample swatches of the seams identified in the theory section, giving you a practical understanding of each technique.

section 3 - practical mini project
to finish, you’ll sew a 1/4 scale bodice using one or two of the seams you’ve just learned. this is a perfect way to apply your new skills in a small, manageable project.p

what you’ll learn: 

• how to thread a sewing machine

• how to thread a bobbin

• how to identify different seams and their uses

• how to sew different seam types to make your own reference sampler/seam library 

• sewing terminology and sewing tools

• practical sewing techniques you can apply to your own projects

by the end of the session, you’ll leave with the skills and confidence to start your own projects at home.

what to expect

• duration: 4 hours with 15-30 min break

• please arrive 5 minutes before your chosen time slot to get settled in

• all materials, fabric swatches, tools and a notebook are provided for you 

• each participant will have a sewing machine provided for them

• want to learn on your own machine? bring it along! just let me know in advance via instant chat, email, or Instagram DM

• a complimentary glass of fizz (non-alcoholic alternative) during the final 15 minutes of the workshop
